Frank and Theresa Hannig
Frank Hannig was a marine environmental enthusiast and international scuba diver. He served in many capacities in the local community, including as Foreman of the local Grand Jury. His wife, Theresa Hannig, was an educator and taught school in several communities, including Redwood City. They both were selected as Outstanding Citizens for their work for dozens of non-profits.
Hannig Environmental Research Organization (HERO) pays tribute to their combined talents and interests — focusing on marine and rain forest ecology and environmental justice for our fragile marine environment.
HERO grew out of the Hannig family's charitable sailing event, the Hannig Cup, and is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity (Tax ID 92-1108128).

We store the information you provide when contacting HERO, requesting a teacher account or subscribing to the newsletter. Teacher passwords are stored as secure hashes. Newsletter signup requires email confirmation; you can unsubscribe using the link in a confirmation or newsletter email. We do not sell personal information. Authorized HERO staff can access requests and subscriber records to run these services. Donations are processed under the payment provider's privacy policy.
